Celebrate Christmas in Las Vegas!

Written by Tiffany Milligan – A Vegas Local

So there’s not four feet of snow on the ground! Is that SUCH a bad thing? I mean, no snow also means people aren’t slipping and sliding all over the road careening into guardrails and those of you that have “tiny rodent dogs” can let them out to potty! Still, if you’re used to a white Christmas, it can be a little hard to get in the holiday spirit here in Las Vegas. DO NOT FEAR, there are plenty of things to do in Vegas for Christmas that will put a little pep in your step and jolly in your day J

Ethel M’s Cactus Garden

This is my favorite place to go to get in the Christmas spirit! Really…and it’s FREE! From 5-9pm daily you can wander down the paths of the amazingly transformed cactus garden. Adorned with bazillions (I might be stretching it) of lights and animated displays, you will have to walk it a few times to take it all in. Grab some hot cocoa (you are at a chocolate factory after all) and enjoy the choirs and carolers belting out Christmas music. This is one of the things to do in Vegas for Christmas that you don’t want to miss!

Glitter Lights at Las Vegas Motor
With over 450 light displays featuring 2 million lights, this course is two and a half miles of retina enticing entertainment. This is great for those of you that THINK it’s cold in Vegas and don’t want to get out of your warm, comfortable vehicles. This event begins with concession stands to help you further enjoy your nearly hour long journey under the grandstands and around the track and ends with a live Nativity scene. Tune in to holiday music that coincides with the displays and rock out with your family. Watch the video for just a glimpse of your experience J $20 Fri – Sun; $15 Mon – Thur.

Allergy sufferers beware: This attraction is NOT FOR YOU! Featuring the cutest floral, topiary polar bears you’ve ever seen and an 8,000 pound, 45 foot tall Christmas tree, this winter wonderland will embrace all of your senses. Inhale the fragrant blossoms, enjoy a beverage, listen to the music and sweep all of your problems under the rug (if only for a moment)! The Conservatory’s holiday display is so spectacular on so many levels that I’ve never known a person to leave in a bad mood. Consider this free event, therapy at its finest!

Magical Forest at Opportunity Village

There are some things to do in Las Vegas for Christmas that scream “FUN” and this is one of them. The Magical Forest is exactly that – MAGICAL. With mini-golf and the “Forest Express” passenger train, this trip won’t be short. Millions of lights dance through hundreds of trees while Santa busily works in his workshop to prepare for Christmas (photo ops available, of course). There’s a gingerbread house display AND plenty of food and entertainment. Adult general admission is $11, adult passport (all rides and attractions) is $20; child general admission is $9, and child passport is $18.

Christmas Dinner in Las Vegas

Written by Tiffany Milligan – A Vegas Local

Pressure. It’s that time of year folks – pressure from all directions. Pressure to finish your shopping, pressure to attend events, pressure to not strangle the person in line at the grocery store who’s holding up the line because they STILL write CHECKS (who does that anyway?)!!! Christmas dinner is just one more item on your never ending list of “annoying crap to do”. Sure it’s rewarding when everyone gains ten pounds from overeating your appetizers, your 20 sides (that nobody bothered helping with), your meal, your pies, cakes, candies…are you overwhelmed yet? Christmas dinner in Las Vegas should be a time to enjoy your loved ones, so why not let someone else dirty their kitchen? Restaurants serving Christmas dinner in Las Vegas is nothing new. Do yourself (and those that “reap” your wrath) a favor, and go out to eat! Don't let this be you...

I hate lists…mainly because I feel like you, the much loved blog reader, deserve a little more information from a local. HOWEVER, some things are best served in lists so here goes!

Vegas Themed Christmas Gifts

Written by Tiffany Milligan – A Vegas Local

Shopping in Las Vegas is always exciting… with stores ranging from Zombie Apocalypse (no, really, it exists) to Niemen Marcus – there’s something for everybody! Now when I say “Vegas Themed Christmas Gifts”, I don’t mean plastic key chains, shot glasses, or baseball caps adorned with the words “LAS VEGAS”! I was thinking more subtle (hey now, I can be subtle)…and when I say subtle, what I really mean is over-the-top. Vegas is all about going BIG or going home so gift giving Vegas style should be no different J Shopping in Vegas is quite the experience (some do anything to avoid it) when holiday shoppers are out in full force looking for unique finds. Sheeples unite and get your shop on!

Brandon Adams Jewelers is known for its unique and custom jewelry. They’ve been a staple in the Las Vegas community for over 65 years. If a large, expensive, flashy, custom designed ring/bracelet/necklace isn’t a Las Vegas themed gift, I don’t know what is!

Neimen Marcus at Fashion Show Mall is known around the world for its personal shoppers. Don’t have time to shop or just don’t like dealing with the aforementioned holiday shopping crowd? Hire someone to do the dirty work for you! What’s more “Las Vegas” than hiring out even the most personal tasks?!

Las Vegas Premium Outlet Mall appeals to the masses with high end shops such as Calvin Klein, BCBG, and DKNY alongside shops such as Corningware, Perfumania, and Harry and David. This place screams out, “I love classy finds on a budget”!

The Forum Shops host designers Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Betty Paige, Cartier, and many others. A designer piece of luggage or the perfect glitzy accessory make a great Christmas present for either sex, any age, any taste.

Via Bellagio Promenade takes shopping in Las Vegas to a whole new level. Yves Saint Laurent, Fendi, and Tiffany & Co. under the same roof…SCORE! The soaring glass ceilings in this beautifully decorated space make the Promenade a sought after shopping place by people near and far.

Shops at the Palazzo is also drawing in the “cool kids” this holiday season for some shopping in Las Vegas. A new Burberry coat? A slinky Bebe dress perhaps? Maybe even a straight razor from The Art of Shaving (just think about the message that gift sends, lol)? There are lots of over-the-top Vegas gifts just waiting to be finished off with the perfect wrapping paper and put under the tree.

Indulge a little this season, it’s what Vegas is all about! Take no heed to budget concerns – you can worry about that next year! After all, we can all afford to gift our loved one a multimillion dollar emerald wrap bracelet, right? Merry Christmas to all!
